Nikolas likes to draw circles and lines that overlap and intertwine and are actually helicopters and trees and robots and the like. You can't tell one picture from another if he doesn't explain it to you, and if you ask him to draw something you can actually identify, he usually doesn't cooperate. He is capable of drawing things that look like what they are supposed to, at least more closely that the intricate circle and line drawings, but he usually prefers not too. Sometimes I think that maybe he will grow up to be a famous modern artist, where there is deep meaning in something that looks like nothing. He sometimes narrates what he is doing, which can be very helpful in interpreting the lines and squiggles correctly. Today Nikolas sat down to draw, announcing, "This is me." He proceeded to narrate, though you can see what this picture is without any help.
As he worked, he said: "This is my face. Is it a big face? And here are my eyes and my mouth. And I forgot my hair. Here is my hair. This is my belly and here are my arms. Are they such long arms? My legs are not so long. But they are fast. Are they faster than a car? I think they are faster than a car. Oh, and on my feet are my shoes. They are rocket shoes and they carry me so high!"
