It is really amazing to open up the balcony door in the morning and have it be warm! Being able to be outside without coats - or even sweaters – is exactly what we were hoping for with a February getaway. While we have a beautiful hotel room, we’ve hardly had time to spend any time in it!

The resort is immense, and luckily we brought Nikolas’ scooter with us so we can get places faster (or get anywhere at all). So, our day starts with a scooter ride through the hotel grounds out to the beach. It is a big beach with dark sand, just right for digging. There are lounge chairs, an immaculate bathroom with designer sinks, and a water cooler out there, and so it is possible to spend the entire morning playing. The Mediterranean is cool, but not colder than Lake Michigan in June. It’s been beautifully sunny and warm, and people have been actually bobbing around in the water for long periods of time. We’ve waded and splashed and that’s been enough so far, but maybe we’ll work up to a total swim. Nikolas is game.

After lunch, we head to the tennis court for an hour where Nikolas likes to run through the drills he’s done at Kids Club and teach us how to play tennis like him. From there, another scooter ride across bridges and pools and lagoons takes us to the mini-golf area where Nikolas leads us in a 9-hole round (each ball being played to the hole and then back to the start). From there we head to the Kids Room, where we could leave Nikolas to play if we weren’t having so much fun all together (and if he’d allow it). There’s a magnetic dartboard in there that is a safer option to the real dartboard out by the Oasis Bar (the dartboard Nikolas really wants to try) and so he plays darts for a while. Perhaps there is time for ping pong after that, but perhaps not.

Why worry about time? Because the water slide at the indoor swimming pool runs from 3:00-5:00 every afternoon, and by the time we get changed and get there, there’s only about a half hour of sliding time left! It is a fast slide and makes Nikolas laugh hysterically. Once the slide shuts off, then it’s jumping and diving time, over and over again, in the real swimming pool (which is definitely the largest pool I’ve ever seen at a hotel). Somehow Nikolas learned how to dive into the pool without being taught, and seems completely fearless.

After swimming, it’s time to get changed for dinner, and perhaps a walk out in the dark (the path lights are blue and orange and very interesting for a three-year-old) because the restaurant isn’t open just yet. After eating, more ping pong is in store, followed by a little TV time back in the room, lying under the covers, before we all fall asleep, completely exhausted by our busy day.
