Make Your Own Halloween / Halloween improvisieren

Recipe for a successful make-your-own Halloween: candy and costumes and pumpkins, but especially candy.

Nikolas' Halloween adventure started at the bank yesterday afternoon. It just happened to be World Saving Day (huh?), and there were balloons and gifts for children. Nikolas chose out an orange balloon (how very festive) and a box of 24 colored pencils. As a bonus, the bank lady threw in a six-games-in-one mini game set. Already Nikolas' bag was full and trick or treating hadn't even begun.

The next stop was across the city at one of the student dorms where we had orchestrated a trick or treating event. Six of Peter's nine students live in Glockengasse and so that was our destination, with the other three students eager to take part and hanging out in the dorm kitchens. Candy had been distributed during class the day before, which would have been enough to keep Nikolas happy for a very long time, although many of the students went shopping for more. He now has more candy than he should probably eat in a lifetime.

Last stop, our place, where the students joined us for pumpkin carving and a light dinner of pumpkin soup. The kids also roasted pumpkin seeds and made a batch of cupcakes, before throwing in a scary movie (when Nikolas was heading to bed) which they could only bear to see half of. Nikolas fell asleep completely exhausted last night after a very successful Halloween.
