Bike Riding / Rad fahren

We've been having a string of absolutely gorgeous autumn days with brilliant sunshine and warm afternoons, the kind of days where you hate to spend any time inside because you know in a few weeks it will be cold and winter will be creeping in. Nikolas decided that we should go out bike riding because it was such a beautiful day, but he wanted to ride his own bike and not be a passenger in his child seat on Peter's bike. So off we went, all three of us, on our first all family bike ride.

I didn't think we'd go very far, so headed back to Hellbrunner Allee (my running path) where there is a small playground not too far from home. When we got there, Nikolas said, "Let's keep riding." So we headed onwards towards a field with a magnificent view of the castle. "Let's keep riding," Nikolas said when we got there. So we went off towards the retirement home where there is a family of goats in the back garden. "Let's keep going!" Nikolas said. So off we went again, Nikolas pedaling like crazy on his tiny little bike and learning how to avoid pedestrians and stay out of the way of other bikes, riding further and further on his bike riding debut.

Finally, after riding for several miles, he said, "Let's go home now."
"Are you tired?" I asked, hoping he could make it home, imagining his legs were about ready to fall off completely.
"Nope," he said. "It's just my hands hurt from holding on so tightly!"
