Exhausted / Erschöpft

We are all tired out. Nikolas has been having a lot of wakeful nights in the last ten days or so (you can read about his wakeful night habit in this blog entry from last month) . Three of the last four nights have been wakeful, perhaps his most intense nights-in-a-row of lost sleep since he was a baby. At two plus hours a night (Sunday was just under 3 1/2 hours), that's almost a whole night of sleep lost in recent days.

For Nikolas, it's not so bad since once he does get back to sleep, he sleeps soundly and he sleeps late. In fact, he's a master at getting out of the door quickly the morning after a wakeful night. We wake him up as late as we can so that we are not late, and then he bounces out of bed, gets dressed, eats a quick breakfast (or takes something "for the road", puts on his coat, and off we go to school. He can go from lying in bed to walking down the street in twenty minutes, and that's without us hurrying him.

For us, we get up as normal, and drag ourselves through the day. It's starting to take its toll. I'm not very interested in playing pirates or superheros all afternoon, I don't have the energy to struggle through the Salzburger Nachrichten with a decaf cup of tea in the evenings as usual, and my mind is a complete blank when trying to work on this blog. I'm really hoping for a good night's sleep tonight.
