Today was a miserable, dreary rainy day. Rainy day number six-hundred-in-a-row, or so it seems. We had great plans to meet up with Grandma and Grandpa, who have arrived in town for Nikolas' birthday, at the Watzmann Therme in Berchtesgaden, Germany. We went to the Therme back in December when they were having an Advent special and were dazzled by the variety of pools and the fact that it was not packed out on a winter Sunday. It seemed like a great spot to meet up, and meeting up was really quite simple, miraculously coordinating arrival times with our twenty minute drive up from Salzburg and their four hour drive south from Schwäbisch Hall so that we arrived within five minutes of each other. But we weren't the only ones with the idea of going to the Watzmann Therme on a rainy day. It was so full that a sign by the entrance announced a thirty minute wait just to get in. Nikolas was disappointed for about one second until it was suggested that we head back to Salzburg and go for a swim at Grandma and Grandpa's hotel. So off we went, only to be told that only hotel guests, and not guests of hotel guests, were allowed in the pool. So much for our swimming plans. They were a wash out, just like the weather.
Not to worry, though. We had a great afternoon, despite the weather and without the pools, just being together. Nikolas even squeezed in a dance before we left Berchtesgaden...
