Field Trip / Ausflug

Today Nikolas went on a field trip for school. Seventy five kids and six teachers headed out on an adventure, spending the morning at Dorf der Tiere (Village of the Animals), a petting zoo near the dinosaur park we went to a few weeks back. They have ponies, goats, rabbits, llamas, ducks, geese, and miniature pigs, as well as a play area. He was to be at school before 8:00 am with a snack, a drink, good shoes, a rain jacket, and a hat. Beyond that, the details of the trip are pretty murky.

Here's a rundown of the trip according to Nikolas:
- We rode on a tour bus.
- It was such a BIG tour bus that we had to walk up THREE steps!
- We had to wear seat belts.
- The bus was noisy. People were clapping and singing.
- There were goats and hee haws (he's never called a donkey a hee haw, but now they are hee haws). Nothing else. Just goats and hee haws.
- At snack time, a goat ate Thomas's carrots, and so I hid my snack in my backpack (and didn't eat)!
- Denny got bitten by a goat!
- There was sand with pipes that popped out and we buried them.
- There was a tunnel and sleds. But you didn't sled through the tunnel you sledded over it.
- I slept for a little bit on the bus, and then I woke up!

It was one of those experiences for Nikolas that reminds us, as parents, that he is living his own life and there will be plenty of experiences in the future which we know nothing about. They arrived back at school around 12:30, and then all the kids piled into one classroom where they had a hot dog lunch (the first hot dogs served at school this year!), where Nikolas says he ate two. Apparently it was a terrific field trip, and he is eager to go on another one soon!
